I ran across the show on the Discovery Channel. One of the women
made shoes for herself from rat skins. The people in the show sometimes
are in T shirts with snow all around.
One thing that really surprised me is they have ostrich. It never
would've occurred to me ostrich would survive that environment.

Are they making rat-shoes to survive? Or just to be eccentric? Maybe they put on a North Face jacket once the film crew is gone....

Just to be weird, apparently. Watchers have something to talk
about. Most of their clothes look off the shelf. They have battery
powered drills.

This show is pretty much scripted. The on screen people supposedly stay
in hotels/motels when no filming. Most everything on these shows are
done for effect. I watched about 15 minutes of this show several years
ago and switched to another program.

Thats too bad. Reality show producers seem to find reality too boring for television, and have to spice it up.

I enjoy "The Repair Shop" a British show, filmed in the soft-spoken style of PBS, in which a group of artisans put way too much effort into fixing old heirlooms such as pocket watches and butter churners. No rat-shoes in this one.

You might like Dirty Jobs starring Mike Rowe. Mike pretends he
is the rookie and has people show him the tricks of the trade. I don't
envy his camera men.

Exactly. I'm Josh's (BamBam Brown) woman (that producer woman) and we pretty live it up in the lap of luxury
in the most lavish of hotels during periods of not filming. lol
